Thyroxine is a hormone thyroid which is formed by the condensation of two molecules of the’amino acid tyrosine. Also called the T4 hormone for tetra-iodothyronine, the thyroxine molecule has four atoms ofiodine and has a structure similar to that of another thyroid hormone: tri-iodothyronine or T3, which has three iodine atoms. Thyroxine is produced by follicles thyroid. Thyroid hormones affect a large number of organs.
